POFAHL STUDIOS

'Gainesville, Florida's premier school of dance for 62 years'

Directors Judith Pofahl Skinner and Kim Pofahl Tuttle

Pofahl Studios is the Official School of Dance Alive National Ballet. Founded in 1956 by Mary Ellen Pofahl, the school provides quality dance instruction for the dance student from beginner through professional, and from pre-school to adult. During its long history, the School has proven to be a training ground for hundreds of dance students, many of whom have gone on to create outstanding professional careers in ballet companies, modern companies, theatre, Broadway shows, television, the academic world and private studios.  The focus of the School is to teach each student poise and coordination and to instill in them the love of dance. For those who wish to pursue an academic or professional career, a complete training program is offered as well.

One of the benefits of the School is the opportunity to study and perform with highly respected professional dancers. The faculty has been selected for their professional knowledge of a particular dance discipline as well as the ability to teach a particular age or ability level. The studio only employs instructors with professional experience and/or dance degrees. The primary concern of the faculty is the development of each student’s skill and appreciation for the art of dance, respect for their teachers and fellow students, and the development of their own personal self-esteem.  The School prides itself on a healthy environment where the individual is respected regardless of talent or academic achievement.

The school performing company, ‘THE NEXT GENERATION’, is comprised of students ages 8-18, and is open by audition only. Repertoire includes classical ballet and pointe, jazz, hip-hop, tap, lyrical, contemporary and various other forms of ethnic dance. The students perform throughout the community and Florida and have opportunities to perform with the professional company, Dance Alive National Ballet in The Nutcracker and other productions.

Owners and Directors Kim Tuttle and Judy Skinner are also Directors of Dance Alive National Ballet. Ms. Tuttle is Artistic Director of Dance Alive National Ballet and Ms. Skinner is Choreographer-in-residence and Director of Grants and Arts Education. Both actively teach at the school.

The quality of instruction insures the quality of education. We are pleased to be able to offer the highest quality instruction available to our students.
